Except in real life the GLE actually doesn’t look bad. I’ve seen it now multiple times and it looks like a fuckin tank on the road. The Aztec just looked like a fuckin

Ugly or not, it’s crazy that the X6 is so popular that Mercedes had to bring one out too

Aztek looks so much better than the stupid Mercedes or the BMW version of the same thing.

Crazy right? I said in another post if Acura dropped a new ZDX this month it would definitely sell more than it ever did before. Especially with how popular the MDX has continued to be. It’s what the market wants now.

A business owner near me just traded her LR4 in on a black GLE450 Coupe...gotta say, it looks really good. I much prefer it over the X6.

I don’t get those huge fastback SUVs, I see a few now in SF and I can’t see what the point is, it seats five like a car or the ML, doesn’t seem to have much clearance and has just been made huge in all other respects for no reason other that to make parking harder? Why not just get the ML? Or if you need a huge SUV get the giant Merc suburban thing.

It makes the X6 look tame in comparison. I don’t know what it is but when the GLE Coupe is coming towards you in traffic it just looks so aggressive and formidable. I was in the “why bother” camp but once I saw it in person coming towards me all I could think was “Oh shit that’s the GLE450 damn that thing looks fuckin crazy”. Something about the design just makes it pop more than the X6.

X6M still kills the GLE63 though in performance.

I secretly like the ZDX. Much better than the abysmally distorted Accord CrossTour. The trim backside and tidier proportions are cool.

I just wish they would dispense with the pretense of rear seat passengers often, and just make it a 3-door coupe crossover, and ~3500 lbs. rather than 4000+

I wonder if ZDX has depreciated as quickly as our 2009 Venza did that we bought used at a smoking price compared to most other vehicles in it’s class. Now I kind of want to look at a ZDX again, although I probably can’t afford to do anything like that right now.

A bit of paint on the beaky grille and some aftermarket wheels, and ZDX can really be a bit of a looker for someone who wants the traction and ground clearance versatility, a bit of cargo flexibility once in a while, and not a huge requirement for rear seat passengers...

I don’t need a 37 passenger bus of an SUV... I like coupes, but winter sucks, snow gets deep, roads get crappier, speed bumps seem to grow, and AWD with a bit of ground clearance has become my daily-driver friend.

Right? I think part of it is that the X6 has a great big fat front and a skinny little backside. The GLE is a more consistent, cohesive design.

I saw one very similar to the pictures we posted and thought “That really was ahead of it’s time”. It’s probably depreciated a lot and Acura has come a lot further in their designs that a new ZDX would probably look pretty good. I see the draw for a coupe like SUV because of exactly what you describe. Someone wants the height and a little more space but doesn’t need 3 rows and rarely has passengers. I still think if I had the money I would get the normal GLE and not the coupe but if someone handed me the keys to one and said it’s yours I would be smiling from ear to ear.

The ZDX and Crosstour came out right in the middle of X6 madness. I don’t think they’d fare any better today.

The problem is that they both looked like spacious cars, and for whatever inane reason, crossovers are only popular if they look like SUVs.

The average SUV owner wants it for one or more of three things.

1. It’s “good in snow” or “good off road”

2. It’s “safe” because you sit really high.

3. They have two kids so they NEED an “SUV”

The X6 and its ilk are AWD, regardless if they’re just FWD with benefits because these people don’t realize there’s a difference, sit high giving a false sense of security (“I’M BIGGER THAN YOU! YOU CAN’T HURT ME!”), and are, ostensibly, “SUVs”
